A Kentucky Butterfly in Pennsylvania

While in Kentucky, the kids captured a caterpillar and decided to hold him hostage in a used strawberry container, with long-term plans to poke him, hold him, fight over who got to feed him last… you know, torture the poor thing as kids innocently do with bugs, small animals, and fathers who accidentally fall asleep on the couch. We thought maybe it would make a chrysalis or cocoon and that would be neat, so needless to say we were all pleasantly surprised when it did just that within a day’s time! (Could the constant screaming, poking and shaking have had something to do with this hasty retreat?)

We drove that strawberry container with the chrysalis out of Kentucky, over the Ohio River, through Indiana, over to Chicago, across Ohio, and finally to southern Pennsylvania. It usually rested under the backseat in the truck, and at campsites and stops, the kids brought it out to get some sun and warmth.

And then, out of the blue, a beautiful butterfly!

(We hope the trek back to Kentucky doesn’t take too long.)

Asking questions are in fact nice thing if you are not understanding something totally, however this post presents
pleasant understanding yet.
